Generation Earth Education Intern with TreePeople

By: Tammy Vu, Spring 2023

Hello! My name is Tammy, and I am a Junior pursuing a B.S. in Environmental Studies. This semester I worked with TreePeople, a non-profit organization that spreads environmental awareness and offers support to local communities. Within TreePeople’s education department, I am with the Generation Earth (GE) team. GE is an environmental education program that provides resources and toolkits to classes and works with students and teachers to bring interactive lessons to the classroom.

Despite this being a remote internship, I fortunately have been able to join some of our in-person events. Some of these events included: water and waste educational workshops where I offered support and was responsible for fundraising for food and drink or the L.A. County Science & Engineering Fair where I was outreaching to the local community. The GE team has multiple projects going on, but the main project this semester was our first Environmental Youth Summit, hosted at the Natural History Museum. During this summit, we invited over 250 students and teachers to participate in environmental workshops, learn about green careers, and present their own green projects they’ve been working on. Here, I primarily organized and oversaw catering but also assisted with the program and recruiting volunteers. For it being our first time putting on an event of this size, it was a success!

Overall, my time with TreePeople has been incredibly fruitful. I have been fortunate to be part of a team that is welcoming and supportive. Ultimately, being able to help the next generation of passionate, eco-conscious leaders makes the work feel that much more fulfilling.

My GE Team!
