Thank you for your interest in participating! We are currently looking for infants aged 7-16 months to participate in a research study – we are studying vocal development in infants with typical hearing and with hearing loss. If you are interested in participating, you will visit our B.A.B.Y. lab at USC. During the first part of the visit we will explain everything about how the study is conducted. If you decide to participate, then you and your infant will play together as you explore our playroom. You can expect to be here for about 80-90 minutes.

The purpose of the study is to see if your baby will modify the vocal sounds produced when you interact with him/her. As you play and explore together in our playroom, for part of the time we will give you instructions to respond to certain sounds made by your baby. At the end of the visit, you will fill out a brief demographic questionnaire. In addition, we will send you a pair of vocabulary inventories when your child is 16-24 months that will measure the growth of their vocabulary.

If you are interested in further participation, we will invite you back for up to six additional study visits at approximately monthly intervals following the first visit.

Free parking will be reserved for you close to our lab, which is located in the Hedco Neuroscience Building at USC’s University Park Campus. Your baby will receive a t-shirt or bib for participating.

If you have any questions or would like to participate, please fill out the form below. This information is used only to establish eligibility for the study. We will not retain any information beyond your contact information should you choose to participate. You can also contact us at bottjer@usc.edu or call 213-740-9183.
