About the Study
Assal Habibi, PhD., a Professor of Psychology at the University of Southern California is conducting a study on the effects of group singing versus music listening on the hearing abilities, cognitive skills, and social wellbeing of older adults. Our aim is to understand how these activities impact adults aged 65 and above.
Your participation will start with a 2-hour visit to our laboratory, where you’ll complete health and wellbeing surveys. Additionally, we will measure your hearing levels and brain responses to sound using an electroencephalogram (EEG). Afterwards, you’ll be assigned to either a group music listening or group singing activity, both hosted at the USC Brain and Creativity Institute. These activities will occur weekly for 2 hours over 20 weeks. At the end of this period, we’ll invite you back to the lab to repeat the same surveys and EEG assessments.
For your participation in these assessments, we offer a compensation of $30 per hour. Both the choir program and music listening activity are free of charge, and we will cover your transportation and parking expenses for both lab/EEG visits to USC. If you’re interested in participating, please click on the sign up button to complete a brief screening questionnaire. Please note that participation in this study is voluntary.
