Biography

Arsalan Haq is an Assistant Professor in the Writing Program at the University of Southern California, working at the intersection of architecture design, literature, and visual culture. He received his Ph.D. in English from Northeastern University. Haq also holds a Bachelor’s in Architecture from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Pakistan and a Master’s in Liberal Studies from Dartmouth College, where he was a Fulbright Scholar from 2013 to 2015. His pedagogy draws on his diverse background and incorporates experimental, multimodal compositional modes, including comics and memes, to teach writing and critical thinking.

 

Haq’s book project, “Designing Atmospheres: Spatial Aesthetics in Architecture Design and Comics,” examines architecture and comics as kindred art forms that shape narrative experiences through the medium of drawing. His interdisciplinary scholarship has appeared in the edited collection Interior Design of Pakistan, the journal of the Architects Regional Council Asia Architecture Asia, and in Design and Culture.
