Biography

Steven Gonzalez completed his undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley. After teaching Latin at schools in the Bay Area and Los Angeles, he went on to pursue his MA at San Francisco State University, where he looked at the relationship between Vergil’s Georgics and Rafael Landivar’s Rusticatio Mexicana. In his dissertation he examines the disciplinary formation of agriculture through the first century agronomist Columella and his De Re Rustica.

    Steven’s research interests include ancient technical literature, economic history, labor, Roman law, ancient music and Marxist criticism. He is particularly interested in the representation and position of labor in literature and culture.
