Biography

Mónica Unda Gutiérrez is Associate Professor (teaching) of Political Science and International Relations. She was previously a faculty member at El Colegio de México. Her research focuses on municipal finances and the political economy of taxation and fiscal policy, with central focus on Mexico. Her publications on tax and fiscal policy of national and local governments have appeared in such journals as Mexican Studies, Economic History Research, Estudios Demográficos y Urbanos, Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales and Espiral as well as in the book The Failure of the 1961 Tax Reform, published by El Colegio de México.  

She has taught courses in Urban Politics, Public Finance, and Development Theory and Policy at the BA and MA levels Mónica received an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), respectively.
