  • Summary Statement of Research Interests

Professor Marston researches an area previously described as “experimental analogues of psychotherapy”, focusing on laboratory paradigms which include “unconscious learning,” vicarious reinforcement, and self-reinforcement. His research also focuses on direct clinical outcome studies in health related areas. His work on obesity resulted in a popular book called The Undiet and a home video weight loss program. His recent studies investigate crying, using films to elicit tears and examining such variables as gender differences.
