F.3 – Bucket and Plummet

The apparatus has a tall stand supporting a large numbered balance that is hooked to a bucket. At the bottom of the bucket there is another hook for the plummet, which fits tightly on the bucket. Just below it, set a large beaker with an overflow outlet, full of water, but without overflowing, and another beaker to catch any spilled water. Hang the bucket and plummet and weigh them dry. Slowly elevate the beaker with water, submerging the plummet and creating a buoyancy force. Notice the weight. The orginal weight is restored by filling the bucket with water caught by the second beaker — the plummet volume of water.
