(Foreword: I later realized the original ‘Acknowledgments’ in my master’s thesis was too normalized with a lack of my own touch. So I wrote a new one here and I’ll attach it when I upload the thesis to ProQuest.)

I’m sure I would not have started to learn algebraic K-theory or completed the thesis about its relationship with the Riemann zeta function were it not for my thesis advisor’s guidance and assistance. So I want to thank my advisor and thesis committee chair, Prof. Eric Friedlander, first. I have learned a great deal from your papers in algebraic K-theory and many other related areas. I will never forget the insightful suggestions and encouragement you gave me each time I emailed you about the thesis updates. These instructions provided me with a broad perspective to input my own efforts and to move on. They were exactly what I needed the most throughout the process, and I will never forget your constant advice: to focus on a particular math topic while understanding related motivations in my future math studies. I want you to know that you have made a wonderfully significant difference in my academic journey at USC, and a wonderfully significant difference in my life.

As well, I would like to express my deep gratitude to my thesis committee members, Prof. Susan Montgomery and Prof. Sheldon Kamienny. You each have provided me with invaluable support, instruction, and encouragement in reviewing and revising the thesis. Thank you very much!

Ms. Amy Yung, the department office manager, you have always been so generous and kind-hearted. I greatly appreciate how hard you have worked to provide timely and valuable help to me and each of my fellow students. Thank you very much!

Lastly, why don’t I acknowledge my major, mathematics? I feel very strongly that I have possessed a positive-definite love for math; hence it will never be changed by any nonsingular setbacks or failures. I thank you for giving me hope and purpose in life, and I promise that I will always be there for you.

In the depths of sorrow’s grasp, he doth flee,
Through rain and gloom he runs with fervent glee.
From twilight’s clutches he doth break away,
And reaches dawn with vigor to his sway.

A yearning doth arise, time and again,
Through dark and light, it doth remain.
Amidst the abyss and endless sky,
His quest persists, ne’er saying die.

As eagles take to flight with wings unfurled,
So too doth he his dreams, with hope impearled.
Through lofty peaks and vast expanse he’ll go,
His spirit soars with steadfast, gallant show.
