Biography

Jeffrey Fields is associate professor of the practice of international relations and director of USC’s Dornsife Washington, DC Program. His research and teaching focus on American foreign policy, diplomacy, and international security, particularly the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Prior to coming to USC, Dr. Fields was a Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) and served as a senior adviser and political-military analyst with the U.S. Department of Defense and as a foreign affairs officer with the U.S. State Department. At State he helped advise the president’s special representative for nonproliferation. Dr. Fields has also been a research associate at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies and researcher the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He is the recipient of grants from the MacArthur Foundation for a project on state behavior and the nuclear nonproliferation regime and the Carnegie Corporation of New York for work on bridging the theory-practice divide in international relations. Professor Fields directs the Intersect Project, which facilitates a dialogue between scholars of international relations and policymakers in Washington, DC and hosts a regular roundtable as part of the project at the State Department. Professor Fields has taught at Cal State LA and UCLA. He received his PhD in politics and international relations from the USC.
