The Los Angeles River runs 52 miles across Los Angeles County, and through urban cities such as Boyle Heights. After several devastating floods due to heavy rains in the early 20th century, the channelization of the river became concrete as we see it today. Not only is it home to wildlife, but Hollywood film crews have also used the river to shoot car races or chase scenes. Therefore, it has a big significance in the entertainment industry. As an iconic feature of Los Angeles history, the river runs close to Boyle Heights, making it part of everyday life as it contributes to the surrounding community. Plans to revitalize the river includes making it accessible for the surrounding communities to play and relax whether through biking, riding along the river, or by having a picnic in the green gardens that will be placed inside the concrete opening.
