The Music Center

The Music Center, opened in 1969, was the site for the Academy Awards ceremony for years. The largest of three theaters, with a seating capacity of 3250, is the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The Pavillion is named after the widow of the publisher of the Los Angeles Times, who was instrumental in the fund raising for the complex.

The center structure of the complex is the Mark Taper Forum. This intimate theater in the round is often used for experimental productions. On the north end of the complex is the Ahmanson Theater which can seat 2000 for drama and musical productions.
