Students also get support and instruction from the <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/hyperbaric\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber<\/a>, an emergency dive medicine facility located at WMSC.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Course content includes marine species identification, transect use, underwater mapping and navigation, first aid, rescues, and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: Before applying for this course, you must earn an open-water (PADI) scuba certification and pass an AAUS diving physical<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Please check back in fall 2026 for information about registering for this course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n                          \n  \n                          <\/div>\n                      <div class=\"swiper-slide\">\n              <h3 class=\"pane-title\">\n                Proficiency Diving\n              <\/h3>\n                                  \n<div class=\"f--field f--description\">\n\n    \n  <p class=\"p1\">Need to log dives to maintain certifications?<\/p>\n<p>Spend a day with us on beautiful Catalina Island while you check those boxes! We offer designated dates when you can access our facility to keep your skills sharp and your log up-to-date.<\/p>\n<p>Proficiency dive days are offered monthly and are open to <strong>active USC divers only*<\/strong>. <\/h2>\n\n\n<\/div>\n      \n                  \n<div class=\"f--field f--description\">\n\n    \n  <p>The Wrigley Marine Science Center&#8217;s Big Fisherman Cove and Catalina Island&#8217;s coastal waters provide a remarkable setting for dive training and ocean research. Part of California&#8217;s Marine Protected Area Network and <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/wrigley\/2024\/04\/22\/wrigley-marine-science-center-is-part-of-mission-blues-newest-hope-spot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mission Blue&#8217;s Hope Spot network<\/a>, the cove and nearby waters were <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/wrigley\/2025\/08\/12\/california-marine-protected-area-leads-ocean-conservation-iucn-green-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently added to the IUCN&#8217;s Green List<\/a> of exceptional conservation areas worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>With visibility that is often remarkably clear, the area offers a mix of healthy kelp forests, eelgrass beds, sandy bottom, and rocky reefs populated by an incredible depth and breadth of marine life.
