The USC Wrigley Marine Science Center is in a remote location with limited access to products, equipment, and other resources. Vegan and vegetarian options are available with all meals. However, please note that we are not able to guarantee accommodation of dietary restrictions or food allergies.
Individuals with severe allergies (such as celiac disease or severe nut allergies) or who must eat kosher or halal are advised to bring their own food.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Hospitality Manager Kennith Cameron (kennithc@usc.edu) at least one week prior to your visit.
A refrigerator/freezer and microwave are available in the dining hall for individuals who must bring their own food. For faculty, staff, or graduate students, we also offer housing with kitchenettes or full kitchens. Please request your housing accordingly when making your reservation.
Lifestyle Choices
We cannot guarantee accommodations for those who choose to avoid certain foods for lifestyle reasons or personal preference (e.g., gluten-free diets, low-carb diets, etc.). Depending on availability of meals that are gluten-free, vegan, etc., we may give first priority to individuals who must avoid certain foods due to food allergies or religious practices.
Religious Practices
Unfortunately, due to our remote location and supply limitations, we are not able to maintain a kosher or halal kitchen. We commit to offering multiple protein sources for those who do not eat certain proteins. In addition, a vegan option will always be available for each meal. If you are fasting during regular kitchen hours as a religious practice, we will be happy to provide to-go meals that can be reheated at another time.
Transporting Food to WMSC
We strongly discourage guests from shipping groceries to WMSC or to our boat at Southern California Marine Institute, as we cannot guarantee the availability of refrigeration or other safe, secure storage. In addition, a charge will be added to your invoice to cover handling fees for food.
If you need to bring your own food due to food allergies or religious practices, please plan to bring groceries with you on the boat.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Hospitality Manager Kennith Cameron (kennithc@usc.edu) at least one week prior to your visit.
