The conference is co-sponsored by the VSRI at USC and the Swiss National Research Fund Project on Globetrotting.<\/li>\n<li>In November 2025, Vanessa Schwartz will deliver the Conference Summary, \u201cExhibiting Magazines,\u201d at the Sorbonne in Paris.<\/li>\n<li>Vanessa Schwartz co-edited the Fall 2025 Special Issue of <em>Word and Image,<\/em> \u201cRe-thinking Photobooks,&#8221; with Jens Ruschatz and Alice Morin. She edited seven essays, co-wrote the volume introduction, and wrote a 25-page article, entitled \u201c\u2018Creatures of their Times\u2019: Time-Life Books and the Informational Aesthetic.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Vanessa R. Schwartz wrote two essays, \u201cLe bouclement du monde\u201d and \u201cTours du monde virtuels,\u201d in\u00a0 Rapha\u00ebl Pieroni and Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Staszak&#8217;s edited collection, <em>La Manie des tours du Monde <\/em>(Geneva: Lienart, 2025), pp. 58-78 and 108-141.<\/li>\n<li>In June 2025, Vanessa Schwartz delivered the paper &#8220;\u2018Long Live the Magic We Made: Globetrotting and the History of the World Tour\u201d at the \u201cWorld Tours and Globetrotters\u201d conference at the University of Geneva.<\/li>\n<li>In May-June 2025, Vanessa Schwartz co-taught the course &#8220;Images Out of Time: Berlin\u2019s Museum Island&#8221; with Megan Luke of the University of T\u00fcbingen. <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/vanessaschwartz\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/197\/2025\/08\/VISS-599-Syllabus.pdf\">View the syllabus here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>On December 5, 2024, Vanessa Schwartz delivered the lecture, \u201cImage History\/History in Images\u201d at the University Museum, University of British Columbia.<\/li>\n<li>On October 31, 2024, Vanessa Schwartz delivered the lecture, \u201c&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/vanessaschwartz\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/197\/2024\/10\/200_241004_ANKUNDIGUNG_SCHWARTZ-scaled.jpg\">What is this stuff doing in the Met?&#8217;: The Eames&#8217; American Bicentennial Exhibition<\/a>\u201d for the Kunsthistorisches Institut at the University of T\u00fcbingen.<\/li>\n<li>On October 23, 2024, Vanessa Schwartz delivered the keynote lecture, \u201cOn Media Moguls,\u201d at the Transmedia Empires Conference in Paris.<\/li>\n<li>On October 16, 2024, Vanessa Schwartz presented her talk, \u201cAround the World with Mike Todd,\u201d at the Jules Verne, <em>Around the World<\/em> Conference in Amiens.<\/li>\n<li>In May 2024, Vanessa Schwartz&#8217;s essay on Taylor Swift&#8217;s &#8220;Getaway Car&#8221; was published in <em>Voyages Enchant\u00e9s<\/em>, edited by Rapha\u00ebl Pieroni and Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Staszak. <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/vanessaschwartz\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/197\/2024\/08\/Schwartz_Gateway-Car.pdf\">Read the essay here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>On March 6, 2024, Vanessa Schwartz gave a lecture titled \u201cGlobetrotting and The History of the World Tour\u201d for the Department of Geography at the University of Geneva.<\/li>\n<li>In March 2024, Vanessa Schwartz served as Professeur Invit\u00e9 at Ecole des Chartes (National School of Patrimony) in Paris. There, she gave a Distinguished Lecture titled &#8220;The Visual Archive&#8221; on March 26.<\/li>\n<li>On December 5, 2023, Vanessa Schwartz was interviewed by the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> for the article, &#8220;\u2018Barbie\u2019s\u2019 influence hasn\u2019t slowed down. Mitchell co-taught VISS 599: Images Out of Time. This class was taught online via Zoom from July 10 to August 4, 2023.<\/li>\n<li>Vanessa Schwartz is a co-PI on an international, interdisciplinary, multi-year project directed by Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Staszak, (Geography, University of Geneva): \u201cGlobetrotting: Touring Round the World\u00a0(1869-1914),\u201d which was selected for funding of close to one million Swiss Francs by Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique (Suisse) (FNRS) for 2023-2026.The project gathers an international and interdisciplinary team to study the rise of globetrotters who made \u201ctours du monde\u201d as amateurs and the special role such trips made to the rise of mass tourism (as opposed to exploration, journalism, diplomacy) from the 1870s to 1914. We are especially interested in how new forms of travel and modes of publication and dissemination of both written and visual accounts \u00a0(stereoscopic photo sets and films) not only re-figured concepts of the planetary but also fostered the development of new written and visual forms and styles.
