USC Sea Grant joined the effort of creating a STEAM Powered Careers book series highlighting characters that reflect the diversity of our students. The book series was spearheaded by the <\/span>USC Joint Educational Project<\/span><\/a> in partnership with <\/span>Room to Read<\/span><\/a> after noticing the lack of students of color represented in books. Creating the book series was a university wide effort including <\/span>USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts & Sciences<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>USC Viterbi School of Engineering<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>USC Rossier<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>USC Keck School of Medicine<\/span><\/a>.<\/span> \u00a0You can read more about the project from ideation to realization in this <\/span>article<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are ten books in the series and they are digitally available for free. There is a lesson to accompany each book.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Marine Biology book was authored by Education Specialist, Maria Madrigal, and features past USC Wrigley Fellow, <\/span>Charnelle Wickliff<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 It follows Cora and Bonnie, her inquisitive butterfly friend, as they explore local marine habitats and learn different ways to study the ocean world.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
