The Writing Program does not use the add\/drop form. Professors do not<\/u> have the authority to approve students enrolling into sections that are already full.<\/strong> All such requests will be denied by the department.<\/p>\n

All Dornsife Writing 340 D-clear sections for Fall 2026 are full<\/b>; the faculty managing those sections have met the 19-student cap in each course, and no additional seats will be opened. Seats may appear open, but they have already been d-cleared to a student who will register.<\/div>\n

For Dornsife Writing 340<\/b>\u00a0with D-clearance<\/b>: instructions were provided on the schedule of classes and WebReg when the schedule was published. Interested students began applying for d-clearance at this time. The sections filled quickly, and faculty are no longer accepting applications. Students interested in taking these W340 special topics courses will need to wait for them to be offered in a future semester and apply for d-clearance early.<\/div>\n

To note for future semesters:\u00a0when a student sees a D-clearance on any Dornsife Writing 340 section when planning their schedule, it is recommended that they should immediately make the request for d-clearance<\/b>, regardless of their registration window time. The faculty do not have access to information about registration windows and will approve students for these classes based on best possible fit from the application information or on a first-come, first-served approach. This D-clear process can take time, so making the request early will allow accepted students to have clearance before their registration appointment.<\/div>\n

It is also encouraged that\u00a0Writing 340 students be in their Senior or Junior year.\u00a0<\/b>While we appreciate Sophomores who want to complete requirements as soon as possible, space in our sections is at a premium, and we want to ensure that all Seniors and Juniors can enroll in the class to stay on track for graduation.<\/div>\n

Writing 340<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Week 1:<\/strong><\/td>\nFor Arts & Humanities, Economics, Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, Pre-Law, Social Sciences, Food Studies, and Sustainability sections<\/span>: Register for a seat as they become available. All Writing 340 sections are capped at 19 seats.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Week 2:<\/strong><\/td>\nThe waitlist form is closed. All available sections have met for the final time in week 2. Please see week 3 instructions.<\/p>\n

Do not attend any WRIT 340 sections you are not registered for.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Week 3:<\/strong><\/td>\nGiven the nature of the writing curriculum and the workshop format of the class, joining a Writing 340 section after the second week of the semester places a student at a severe disadvantage in terms of the goals and requirements of the course. For this reason, requests to add 340 during the third week are usually denied.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the basis of extraordinary circumstances, a student may initiate an exception request in the relevant administrative office\u00a0(at the Marshall Center for Management Communication for Business sections, the Viterbi Engineering Writing Program for Engineering sections, and the Dornsife College Writing Program for all other sections); such requests require both administrative and instructor approval.\u00a0Email writprog@usc.edu with questions.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
