One of the largest, collaborative geoscience centers in the world, the Statewide California Earthquake Center (SCEC) coordinates fundamental research on earthquake processes using California as its principal, natural laboratory. SCEC focuses on seismology, tectonic geodesy, earthquake geology, and computational science in addition to spreading earthquake awareness, promoting safety practices, and creating learning opportunities for future earthquake scientists.
