The USC Dornsife Department of Linguistics is an internationally recognized leader in theoretical and comparative linguistics with research taking place in five major areas: phonetics, phonology, psycholinguistics, semantics, and syntax. Students focus on the broad, theoretical study of language while also doing deeper investigations into specific language areas of their interest. Home to labs with state-of-the-art acoustic, signal processing, and statistical analysis tools, the department provides opportunities for students to engage in research and deepen their knowledge of the way language shapes our world.
