NEH Funds “Images Out of Time: Visual and Material Culture in a Digital Age”

We are delighted to announce that the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has approved our grant application to its Humanities Initiatives at Colleges and Universities for “Images Out of Time: Visual and Material Culture in a Digital Age.”

This award will build on the success of the “Images Out of Time” seminar series at USC Dornsife’s Visual Studies Research Institute (VSRI) to implement an interdisciplinary honors curriculum in visual and material studies in the Thematic Option Program over the course of three years (from 2022–25). Our initiative will support public programming, reading groups and workshops, summer internships, and excursions to area collections.

I will be directing this project together with colleagues David Albertson, associate professor of religion; Nancy Lutkehaus, professor of anthropology and political science; Panivong Norindr, associate professor of French and Italian and comparative literature; and Vanessa Schwartz, VSRI director and professor of art history and history.
