Biography

Anesti Vega is an ocean scientist focused on deep sea ecology, as well as a science communicator and educator in the areas of marine science, scuba diving, and water safety, with an emphasis on accessibility and inclusion for marginalized communities.

As the Scuba Council Chair for Diversity In Aquatics, Anesti is dedicated to making scuba diving a welcoming place for all, and speaks on the healing power of water in his own journey. His expansive work is facilitated through a number of positions within the scuba diving and ocean science communities, including AAUS Scientific Diving Foundation, Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative, and most recently as a member of the Committee on Water for Healing, Justice, and Action at the United Nations. His most recent accolades are being awarded the 2022 Diversity In Aquatics President’s Award, being named the 2021 Marine Science Educator of the Year, as well as Sea Hero of the Year 2021 by Scuba Diving Magazine.
