Upon hearing Recam\u00e1n\u2019s sequence, played<\/p>\n

Effortlessly by the algorithm of the Online<\/p>\n

Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences,<\/p>\n

In the appropriate acoustic grand piano<\/p>\n

Style, songs of French started filling my mind\u2014<\/p>\n

After four years, forty-two weeks per year,<\/p>\n

Five days per week, of humming Spanish; still I<\/p>\n

Know not a nattilla\u2019s taste, or how dancing<\/p>\n

The Danz\u00f3n with white ginger feels; yet Mama<\/p>\n

Proclaims tending to the roots leads to a fertile<\/p>\n

Land of vibrant roses and carnations.<\/p>\n

Yet I heard if one falls through space, they burn\u2026<\/p>\n

Upon witnessing a multitude of once<\/p>\n

Ripened bodies secreting and contorting<\/p>\n

To the primordial cadence of drums to become<\/p>\n

A sensation-seeking mass of body parts,<\/p>\n

Which holds no value amongst other artists,<\/p>\n

Gold chains started wrapping around my neck,<\/p>\n

Allowing me to teeter between menace<\/p>\n

And rarity\u2014and resemble the common dill\u2014<\/p>\n

In hopes of finding several potential<\/p>\n

Paramours, willing to incessantly embrace<\/p>\n

This black-watered trunk, already ablaze.<\/p>\n

Appearing as some small, fiery comet\u2026<\/p>\n

Upon voicing the lost hymn found among<\/p>\n

The infinite dawns and wind-fallen photons,<\/p>\n

Much past the point where poetry can serve\u2014<\/p>\n

Same hymn Muhammed tamed Al-Buraq with,<\/p>\n

Same hymn that tempted the Angels to sin\u2014<\/p>\n

I started to live my life as some Freeman<\/p>\n

Proclaiming god resides in all that is seen,<\/p>\n

Season after season, on each network,<\/p>\n

Ensuring these far-flung branches remain<\/p>\n

Stretching to the heavens long after the leaves<\/p>\n

Land where the wildflowers fall.<\/p>\n

Screaming in agony as they spiral out\u2026<\/p>\n

Upon occupying the madmen\u2019s eyes<\/p>\n

With a haze of darkness, while yearning<\/p>\n

For when the sky was always visible,<\/p>\n

I accepted that this universe would not care<\/p>\n

If\u2014or rather when\u2014a wildfire engulfs<\/p>\n

My ligneous form, which seems like a flicker<\/p>\n

Blowing in the sun.<\/p>\n

Before one disappears forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n <\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Taylor Rivers<\/strong> is currently a freshman in the USC School of Dramatic Arts. As a native-born Californian, Taylor spent most of his life growing up in Vallejo, CA, which is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. He also has a mixed ethnic background that often influences his art in subtle ways. In regards to his poetry, he is inspired by the works of Allen Ginsberg, Emily Dickinson, and Rudy Francisco among others.
