Talk to me about: Melbourne! I spent my Spring semester abroad there and traveled a bit across Australia too, so I could talk for hours about all my experiences. I can especially ramble on and on about all of the amazing food. If you want recommendations for literally anything related to food, I have a whole list of my favorite spots, covering everything from cozy cafes to lively restaurants and all kinds of cuisines. I’m also happy to chat about what it’s like studying abroad as an engineering major and what that’s like in a different educational system. Honestly, you can ask me about anything, including what it’s like being Black in a predominantly white country, what it feels like to be a woman navigating a new place alone, or how financial aid worked for me while I was abroad. If you’re curious about housing options, day-to-day life, or even the best spots for nightlife/entertainment, I have plenty of tips and stories. I’d love to share my experiences and hopefully make you feel even more confident and reassured on whether or not studying abroad in Australia is what’s best for you.
Advice: Give yourself credit for even making it abroad in the first place. It’s so easy to compare your experience to others, especially on social media, and feel a little jealous when you see differences in the lives you’re living. While you’re dwelling on others, you might forget that you are having your own amazing experiences too. Focus on what you can do, whether that’s a solo weekend trip or just exploring a new part of the city with a friend you made in class. Adventures can happen anywhere, and if you spend all your time thinking about what you didn’t do, you might miss everything you have done. You don’t need a week-long block of free time in your schedule to have fun, you can do it at any time. Enjoy the moment and do things for your own joy.
