USC Dornsife Communication Wins 10 CASE Awards

The USC Dornsife Office of Communication, led by executive director Emily Cavalcanti, won 10 regional 2013 Awards of Excellence from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Senior video producer Mira Zimet garnered a gold in video recruitment features for the “Master of Professional Writing Program” and a bronze in video general information features for “First-Year Investigations (FYI).”

Senior editor Pamela Johnson earned a silver in best articles of the year for her USC Dornsife Magazine news-feature, “Emotional Economics.”

USC Dornsife Magazine received a silver for excellence in design (periodicals) for the Fall 2012/Winter 2013 issue designed by in-house graphic designer Letty Avila and director of production Dan Knapp, and a bronze for college and university general interest magazines (circulation: 30,000 to 74,999), which included articles by Cavalcanti, Johnson, Knapp, media/social media specialist and writer Michelle Salzman, staff writer Susan Bell, and web editor and writer Laura Paisley.

The USC Dornsife Graphic Identity Program, developed in conjunction with the university’s graphic identity and in collaboration with Cavalcanti, University Art Director Sheharazad Fleming and Pentagram Design, received a silver for excellence in visual identity systems.

The “We Are USC Dornsife” brochure was recognized with a silver for excellence in design (multi-page publications/folders) and with another silver for institutional relations publications. “The USC Dornsife 100” brochure received a bronze for excellence in design (multi-page publications/folders) and another bronze for institutional relations publications. Both brochures were produced in conjunction with the USC Dornsife Office of Advancement, overseen by Cavalcanti and designed by Pentagram Design.

USC Dornsife competed in CASE’s District VII, which includes institutions in Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.

Since 2009, the USC Dornsife Office of Communication has earned a total of 23 CASE Awards of Excellence.
