The award recognizes excellence in organic chemistry and honors Thompson\u2019s research on organic light-emitting materials, which led to the red and green emitters that power today\u2019s OLED screens. His work has transformed display and lighting technologies \u2014 from <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/news\/stories\/colorful-keys\/\">smartphones<\/a> to televisions \u2014 while opening new possibilities for <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/news\/stories\/seizing-the-daylight\/\">sustainable energy applications<\/a>. Thompson\u2019s lab continues to advance the field by designing novel molecular systems, including copper-based compounds that offer eco-friendly alternatives to rare metals.
