Founded in 1971, the Master of Professional Writing Program at USC is the nation's first and foremost multi-genre creative writing program. MPW's unique approach unites multiple disciplines—fiction, nonfiction, poetry, writing for stage and screen, and new media—through writing workshops, seminars, one-on-one conferences, and professional development panels. The program, which also addresses the writer's capacity to make his or her living through writing, has a proven track record of launching writing careers— under the guidance of our esteemed faculty of working writers.

Our students have the advantage of proximity to the entertainment and literary industries of Los Angeles, as well as the resources of one of the world’s major research universities. Our alumni have successful publishing and teaching careers and are working writers for film, television, stage, new media, and business.
