To wit, the most recent developments in physics, economics, and finance, to name just a few disciplines, are all highly mathematical. Moreover, mathematics is one of the central human intellectual disciplines, with a history extending almost three millennia.<\/p>\n<p>By any measure, our faculty is a distinguished group of scientists and researchers. A number of our faculty either are or were members of the National Academy of Sciences, several have held prestigious Sloan Fellowships and National Science Foundation (NSF) Career Awards, and many are on the editorial boards of the leading scholarly journals in their fields. Members of our department hold important offices in the American Mathematical Society (AMS).<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the USC Department of Mathematics is home to a number of interdisciplinary organized research units involving faculty both from within the Department of Mathematics and whose home departments are elsewhere in the College and University.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/cams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Center for Applied Math Sciences<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qcb-dornsife.usc.edu\/\">Computational Molecular Biology<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/msl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Modeling and Simulation Laboratory<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n      \n      \n    <\/div>\n  \n      <div class=\"cards-container\">\n      \n        <div class=\"card\">\n\n                            <a class=\"card-description\">Our algebra research covers representation theory, group theory, algebraic geometry, algebraic combinatorics, algebraic K-theory, and connections to mathematical href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/mathematics\/analysis-and-differential-equations\/\" >\n            \n                                    <h3>Analysis and Differential Equations<\/h3>\n                \n                                    <span class=\"card-description\">The analysis\/differential equations group conducts research in theory and applications of ordinary and partial differential equations and dynamical systems. <\/span>\n                \n                            <\/a>\n                    <\/div>\n      \n        <div class=\"card\">\n\n                            <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/mathematics\/combinatorics\/\" >\n            \n                                    <h3>Combinatorics<\/h3>\n                \n                                    <span class=\"card-description\">Combinatorics at USC is predominantly algebraic with connections and applications to probability, representation theory, algebraic geometry, finite group theory, and topology. <\/span>\n                \n                            <\/a>\n                    <\/div>\n      \n        <div class=\"card\">\n\n                            <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/mathematics\/computational-mathematics-and-control-theory\/\" >\n            \n                                    <h3>Computational Mathematics<\/h3>\n                \n                                    <span class=\"card-description\">The computational mathematics group conducts research in mathematical control in the intelligent manufacture of semiconductor devices, modeling and simulation.<\/span>\n                \n                            <\/a>\n                    <\/div>\n      \n        <div class=\"card\">\n\n                            <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/mathematics\/financial-mathematics\/\" >\n            \n                                    <h3>Financial Mathematics<\/h3>\n                \n                                    <span class=\"card-description\">The mathematical finance group includes probabilists and stochastic analysts working in problems directly motivated and\/or applicable to finance and href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/mathematics\/geometry-and-topology\/\" >\n            \n                                    <h3>Geometry and Topology<\/h3>\n                \n                                    <span class=\"card-description\">The geometry and topology group has interests in symplectic geometry, low-dimensional topology, complex geometry, and homological mirror symmetry.<\/span>\n                \n                            <\/a>\n                    <\/div>\n      \n        <div class=\"card\">\n\n                            <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/mathematics\/probability\/\" >\n            \n                                    <h3>Probability<\/h3>\n                \n                                    <span class=\"card-description\">The research of the faculty in probability covers a broad area of probability theory, mathematical statistics, and their applications.<\/span>\n                \n
