WELCOME<\/strong><\/p>\n

Welcome to the Math Center! If you want help with your math classes this is the place to come!<\/p>\n

The Math Center is run informally and is designed for easy drop-in usage. It works best to use the Center as a study room. It\u2019s a good place to meet up with your study partners and work on homework. If you need help, ask one of the Teaching Assistants or the Math Center Assistant. It\u2019s as easy as that! \u00a0We are located in KAP 263<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

FINDING A TEACHING ASSISTANT<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Teaching Assistants are here to help you with your math assignments. Click on consulting hours to find out who is available when. Notice that the Teaching Assistants are listed according to which mathematics class they are assisting, and classes that cover similar material are grouped together. As a first choice, try to get help from a Teaching Assistant who is assisting a class that is grouped with your class. But failing that, another TA may be able to help you. \u00a0The Math Center Assistant (who sits behind the front desk and hosts the zoom session) can help you find a Teaching Assistant.<\/p>\n

COMING VIRTUALLY<\/strong><\/p>\n

For your convenience the Math Center will generally operate in hybrid mode. \u00a0This means that, if you wish, you may join the virtual Math Center zoom room at the link below (instead of coming in person to the physical location). \u00a0Please note, hybrid access is not perfect and is not guaranteed; when we have a staffing issue the hybrid option may not be available and not all Teaching Assistants have the technology to support tutoring over zoom.<\/p>\n

Only those with a USC NetID will be granted access to the zoom room. When you enter, the Math Center Assistant on duty will assign you to a breakout room with a Teaching Assistant, or you may hang out in the main room, or you may ask to be put in a breakout room with students of the same class.<\/p>\n

OPENING TIMES<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Math Center is open during the Fall and Spring semesters. \u00a0It opens the second week of classes each semester though there is no schedule that week indicating when the Teaching Assistants are there. \u00a0The schedules showing when the Teaching Assistants are in the Math Center starts the third week of classes (click on the Consulting Hours tab above to see the schedule). \u00a0It is open Monday – Thursday 8am – 7pm and Friday 8am – 5pm. \u00a0 It is open during study days and finals week but otherwise is closed on non-instructional days and on university holidays.<\/p>\n

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT THE START OF THE SEMESTER<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Math Center opens the second week of the semester. \u00a0However, the first week it is open it is not fully functional:
\n* The Math Center is often short-staffed the first week it is open, so hybrid access may not always be available and there may not be anyone to help you find a TA. \u00a0Please don’t be afraid to ask people in the Math Center if they can help you!
\n* The first week the Math Center is open, all the TAs make themselves available for students in their classes. \u00a0However, there is no schedule indicating which TAs are in the Math Center when. \u00a0This means it may be somewhat hit-and-miss this week in terms of finding someone to help you. \u00a0 (Please be sure to ask your TA when they will be in the Math Center.)<\/p>\n

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT THE END OF THE SEMESTER<\/strong><\/p>\n

The TA schedule for the Math Center changes on the last day of classes. The schedule during study days and finals, becomes focussed on helping students prepare for final exams.<\/p>\n
