William Deverell, Founding Director<\/strong><\/h3>\n

William Deverell is the Divisional Dean for the Social Sciences at USC Dornsife and Professor of History in the Van Hunnick Department of History. He also directs the USC Libraries Collections Convergence Initiative. He previously taught at the California Institute of Technology and the University of California, San Diego.<\/p>\n

Professor Deverell teaches and writes about the nineteenth and twentieth century American West. He is the author, editor, or co-editor of numerous books exploring a variety of topics and themes. They include\u00a0The Blackwell Companion to Los Angeles<\/em>\u00a0(co-edited with Greg Hise);\u00a0The Blackwell Companion to California History\u00a0<\/em>(co-edited with David Igler); and\u00a0The Blackwell Companion to the History of the American West<\/em>. He is the author of\u00a0Whitewashed Adobe: The Rise of Los Angeles and the Remaking of Its Mexican Past<\/em>\u00a0and of\u00a0Railroad Crossing: Californians and the Railroad, 1850-1910<\/em>, as well as the recently-published\u00a0Kathy Fiscus: A Tragedy that Transfixed the Nation.\u00a0<\/em>With the historian Tom Sitton, he is the co-editor of\u00a0Metropolis in the Making: Los Angeles in the 1920s<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0California Progressivism Revisited<\/em>. With Greg Hise, he co-authored\u00a0Eden by Design: The 1930 Olmsted-Bartholomew Plan for the Los Angeles Region<\/em>\u00a0and co-edited\u00a0Land of Sunshine: An Environmental History of Metropolitan Los Angeles<\/em>. He and Professor Anne Hyde of the University of Oklahoma co-authored the two volume\u00a0Shaped by the West: A History of North America.\u00a0<\/em>With co-editor Wade Graham, he is at work on a volume (to be published by the University of Chicago Press) on the human and natural history of Los Angeles County.\u00a0From 2022 to 2023, Professor Deverell served as the President of the Western History Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n <\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Elizabeth Logan, Executive Director<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Elizabeth A. Logan received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University in History with honors, her JD from the UCLA School of Law, and her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. She serves as the Associate Director of ICW and the Executive Director of the Los Angeles Service Academy (LASA). Her previous work includes positions as an Assistant Editor of Boom: A Journal of California and as a Dornsife Preceptor. Her teaching and work explores the intersections of law, history and culture in the 19th- and early 20th-century United States and American West. She not-so-secretly wishes there was a LASA she could have joined when she was a high school junior!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n <\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Eryn Hoffman, Operations Director<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Eryn Hoffman has a B.A. with honors in History from Yale University, a Master\u2019s in Child & Adolescent Literacy from Loyola Marymount University, and an Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership from USC. She serves as the Operations Director of ICW, supporting the exploration and scholarship of history and culture of California and the west. Eryn has worked as a middle and high school educator, with roles that have included history department chair, curriculum director, director of research, and professional development coach. Eryn\u2019s work has been highlighted nationwide, including by the National Association of Independent Schools and The Today Show. \u00a0She loves working with LASA students, especially when it is time to visit the Port of L.A.!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n <\/div><\/div>\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
