Hsinming Fung is an architect and teacher who takes the same approach to teaching architecture as to practicing it: experimentation, collaboration, and communication. This methodology has fueled the practice, Hodgetts + Fung Design Associates, and elevated Fung to one of Los Angeles’ esteemed academic positions as the director of graduate programs at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). Her explorations of human emotions have resulted in the sensitive infusion of new into old in the Egyptian Theatre renovation, the reconceived arch of the Hollywood Bowl, and the animated geometry of the Hyde Park Library. With her partner, Craig Hodgetts, Fung incorporates emerging technologies to reveal the colors, shapes, sounds, and emotions that form human existence. Hodgetts + Fung received the AIA Gold Medal Award in 2006 and the AIA Firm of the Year Award in 2008.
