Judith received her PhD from Columbia University in 2018 where she developed tools to quantify the binding preferences of transcription factor (TF) complexes to both native and epigenetically modified DNA. She worked as an HHMI student fellow under the supervision of Harmen Bussemaker and Richard Mann. After graduation, she worked as an EMBO and Marie-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow in Bart Deplancke’s lab at EPFL (Switzerland). Her research focused on developing new strategies to identify the mechanisms by which transcription factors mediate gene expression in native contexts, including TF cooperativity and the establishment of communication between TF-bound enhancers and promoters.<\/p>\n

August is a PhD student in Molecular & Cellular Biosciences. August holds a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology with a minor in chemistry from Cal Poly at Pomona and a master’s degree in biological sciences from Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo. Before coming to USC, August also worked as a technician in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, contributing to research on non-small cell lung cancer metabolism. In his free time, August enjoys hiking, surfing, astrophotography, reviewing movies on letterboxd and long walks on the beach.<\/p>\n
