Tedesco Scholarship

The Department of Gender and Sexuality Studies (GSS) in USC Dornsife College invites its students to apply for the Tedesco Scholarship. This scholarship is designed to recognize USC Dornsife GSS students who are primarily interested in topics related to women, gender, and sexuality. We expect to award one $5,000 scholarship to one undergraduate and one $5,000 summer funding fellowship to one graduate certificate student to be used in the 2023-2024 academic year. (The undergraduate student scholarship will be applied to the Fall 2023 semester; the graduate summer funding fellowship will be applied to the Summer 2024 semester.) In addition, the graduate student recipient will be provided with a limited-time complimentary NWSA membership.

 

The successful recipients will have the following.
  • A declared undergraduate GSS major or GSS, GNSJ, or LGBTQ minor OR a GSS graduate certificate (must be officially declared through the GSS department)

  • A demonstrable track record of classes and research projects that are related to women, gender, and sexuality

  • An outstanding academic record more generally

  • Letters of recommendation from two faculty members, at least one of whom conducts research that is related to women, gender, and sexuality

 

DEADLINE FOR COMPLETED APPLICATIONS IS MARCH 11, 2023.

 

To apply for this scholarship, please submit:
  1. A completed electronic application through which the following documents will be uploaded

  2. A personal statement outlining your interests (in pdf format)

  3. A writing sample from a course related to women, gender, and sexuality (in pdf format); please note that for undergraduate students, the writing sample should be no more than 20 pages; for graduate certificate students, it should be no longer than 30 pages

  4. A resume or CV (in pdf format)

  5. A copy of your most recent STARS report (in pdf format)

  6. Two letters of recommendation (in pdf format), at least one of which is from a faculty member who conducts research related to women, gender, and sexuality. Please have your recommenders email a letter of recommendation to Hye Min Yu, hyeminyu@usc.edu.
