In addition to learning how this economic integration came about, this course also focuses on past and current issues affecting individual countries and the continent as a whole. As part of the academic assignments, students will prepare a country-specific report and learn how to retrieve and interpret Eurostat data. The course is based in Leuven, Belgium, due to its central location, as there will be several field trips to different European institutions. We will visit the European Union Commission in Brussels, the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, the European Central Bank in Frankfurt (Germany), the European Parliament, and visit nearby Maastricht in the Netherlands.
