She is an environmental health scientist dedicated to engaging environmental justice organizations and local communities in research that documents systemic environmental inequities while imagining pathways for healthier, empowered, and climate-resilient neighborhoods. Hasibe completed her Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Her doctoral work examined the disproportionate effects of rising temperatures on heat-vulnerable populations and high-exposure communities, analyzing how existing housing infrastructure mediates climate risk and can be adapted to mitigate heat-health outcomes and disparities. Her scholarship examines the historical and contemporary interlockings of social work, policing, and the criminal legal system. Her research sits at the intersection of social welfare history, sociolegal studies, and critical carceral studies, with a particular focus on carceral governance and the intertwined governing logics of care and carcerality. Rather than positioning care and punishment as oppositional forces, her work examines how institutions of care are frequently mobilized alongside systems of surveillance, regulation, and social control. Lucy earned her Ph.D. in Informatics at UC Irvine, with a dissertation focused on transnational solidarity and labor organizing among workers made precarious by technology-mediated work. This project was based on a long-term ethnographic accompaniment with migrant gig worker organizers in Latin America. Lucy\u2019s work also has sought to collaborate with communities to develop ways to engage openly with the downsides of technological intervention (i.e. \u201ctech for good\u201d) while still trying to more equitably distribute the benefits of technological innovation.
