Lupe is from the lands of Acapulco, Guerrero in Mexico, and was raised in Kumeyaay territory (San Diego, California). Her upbringing in the multi-racial community of City Heights, her grassroots organizing work, and research experience propelled her to pursue her Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. Lupe first became deeply aware of the importance of urban planning in shaping the quality of life for low-income communities while advocating for the development of a local skatepark. In that campaign, she witnessed the power and value of community organizing, leadership, partnership, and the critical importance of community voice in effective public planning.<\/p>\n

Lupe received her Bachelor’s of Sociology at the University of California Merced, where she developed outreach and advocacy programs for undocumented students and their families through the Office of Services for Undocumented Students. As an undergraduate, Lupe co-authored two research reports on the role of community-based organizations in building capacity within urban communities. As a Data Analyst at the Equity Research Institute, Lupe’s work focuses mostly on Social Movement Research, Movement Building and Immigrant Inclusion. She has contributed to larger statewide strategic conversations with philanthropy and movement building organizations, and reports and publications on indigenous migrants in Los Angeles. Prior to ERI, Lupe analyzed data and prepared briefs that informed public discourse to advance policy change for Latinos in California as a Research Fellow at the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute. Her professional experience includes designing and developing youth-centered programs and consulting on how to better integrate youth voice in organizations\u2019 strategic planning.<\/p>\n

In the future, Lupe hopes to utilize planning and research methods that support future cross-sectoral projects that address the growing necessity to access data for public and private sectors and assist in building their capacity to leverage statistical, computational, and social science expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n <\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":458,"featured_media":0,"parent":5944,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-15058","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\nLupe Renteria Salome -
