‘Following Harry’ Film Screening and Conversation
Join us for a special screening of Following Harry, an intimate new documentary honoring the life and legacy of cultural and civil rights icon Harry Belafonte. Premiering at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, the film offers a moving portrait of Belafonte’s lifelong dedication to social justice, from the killing of Trayvon Martin through the Black Lives Matter movement and beyond. With over 12 years of footage, Following Harry follows Belafonte as he mentors young artist-activists, reflects on race relations in America, and shares his hopes for the future.
Following the screening, we’ll host a conversation with filmmaker Susanne Rostock, activist and Women’s March convenor Carmen Perez-Jordan, and acclaimed singer-songwriter and USC alum Aloe Blacc. Together, they will reflect on Harry Belafonte’s enduring legacy and the continuation of his life’s work.
Special thanks to our co-sponsors, the USC Black Studies Center, the USC Department of Sociology, the USC Institute for Theater and Social Change, and the USC Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs.
