The Honors is provided to students meeting the highest academic standards and going above and beyond the requirements for the major, including the completion of a research project. Capstone planning should occur beforehand, likely in the junior year.<\/li>\n<li>Acceptable experiences include but are not limited to:\n<ul>\n<li>Directed research resulting in an original thesis or a scholarly paper (<a id=\"tt918\" href=\"https:\/\/catalogue.usc.edu\/content.php?catoid=20&amp;navoid=8210#tt918\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\/ajax\/preview_course.php?catoid=20&amp;coid=312027&amp;display_options[location]=tooltip&amp;show noopener remote\">ENST 490x<\/a> or research such as that supported by SOAR or PURF).<\/li>\n<li>An approved research\/empirical paper based on a guided internship (such as <a id=\"tt6645\" href=\"https:\/\/catalogue.usc.edu\/content.php?catoid=20&amp;navoid=8210#tt6645\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\/ajax\/preview_course.php?catoid=20&amp;coid=319782&amp;display_options[location]=tooltip&amp;show noopener remote\">ENST 492<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Other research papers or scholarly work may be approved on an individual basis by the Honors Committee (e.g., a scholarly work produced in\u00a0<a id=\"tt295\" href=\"https:\/\/catalogue.usc.edu\/content.php?catoid=20&amp;navoid=8210#tt295\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\/ajax\/preview_course.php?catoid=20&amp;coid=312028&amp;display_options[location]=tooltip&amp;show noopener remote\">ENST 495<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>General guidance for preparation of an honors research proposal:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is the broad goal of the research, and how does it build on the existing literature.<\/li>\n<li>What is\/are the specific research question\/s you hope to answer; as appropriate, what is\/are the hypotheses.<\/li>\n<li>What research method would you employ, what research tools would you use (per the typical content for a Methods section, following disciplinary norms and standards).
