Our graduates in the critical and creative tracks go on to successful careers both within and beyond the academy, and we celebrate that success. From the first year, we provide extensive mentoring and support as they grow into their roles as professional academics, teachers, and writers, helping them build a portfolio of achievements, including securing both internal and external awards, grants, and funding, high-profile publications, field-specific teaching experience, and specialized trainings and certificates, that underpin a compelling dossier.

Each year, all dissertating (A.B.D) students have access to a year-long job market training service, which begins in the spring with a placement seminar, followed by a continuous program of job market material development, mock interviews, and practice job talks, in collaboration with multiple faculty. Our placement officer is available to all students to give advice about their career, and to help candidates strategize their approach to the job market, prepare for campus visits, and negotiate the terms of job offers.

          2025

Katie Googe (English), Dissertation Chair, Fulbright to Brno, Czechia, Assistant Professor (tenure-track), Postdoctoral Fellow
Purdue University

James Ciano (English), Creative Writing Fellow in Poetry, Emory University
Dissertation: “Think of me what you think of me”: Lateness in the Poetry of Larry Levis

          2024

Viola Lasmana, Assistant Professor, Comparative World Literature Program
California State University, Long Beach
Dissertation: Shadow Imaginations: Transpacific Approaches to Post-1965 Indonesian Archives

Past Positions: Postdoctoral Fellow, American Council of Learned Societies, Rutgers University (2022);
