The Econometric Society was founded in 1930, to foster the advancement of economic theory in its relation to statistics and mathematics. The Society has elected Fellows for 90 years. Eliana La Ferrara, President of the Econometric Society, explains that “Election as a Fellow of the Econometric Society is a recognition of important contributions to Economics. The Fellows represent the highest authority of the Society.”<\/p>\n

Thomas Chaney holds a Ph.D. in economics from MIT, where he worked under the supervision of Daron Acemoglu (Nobel Prize 2024), Xavier Gabaix, and Marc Melitz. He joined the faculty of USC Economics in 2021. He is joint Managing Editor at the Review of Economic Studies, a member of the Council of the European Economic Association, a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research, and a Research Fellow at the CESifo Research Network. Professor Chaney’s research focuses on international trade. He has studied the role of trade in the emergence of ancient cities in the Bronze Age, the role of production networks in shaping the patterns of international trade, and the importance of circulation of ancient coins in fostering trade and economic growth in the Ancient Mediterranean.<\/p>\n
