Symposium on Extinction Insights: Present, Past and Future

A new initiative on extinction (EXIST – Extinction Insights for a Sustainable Tomorrow) has been organized by collaborators at USC (Wrigley Institute and others), the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, and the Huntington Library. Our opening activity will be a symposium held at the South building of the Natural History Museum on Wednesday, October 29, from 10AM to noon. The symposium will consist of four fifteen minute presentations from collaborators at the NHM and USC, illustrating the breadth of extinction activities and investigations that they are involved with, with time for questions. This will be followed by a twenty minute panel discussion with presenters and others in the collaborative extinction group on the panel. Emphasis will be on what can be learned from ancient mass extinctions to help understand and manage the current mass extinction. This activity is free and is open to members of the USC, NHM and Huntington communities. Instructions on obtaining tickets can be found on the flyer, as well as other pertinent information to attend.
