Applicants for the awards must be full-time undergraduate students majoring in USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at the University of Southern California for the academic year, junior or senior class standing, and have a minimum 3.5 grade point average. The purpose of the program is to enrich the nation\u2019s pool of area and international specialists. Applicants should be planning to use their training to teach, to serve in government or international agencies, or to engage in other work that advances American understanding of other countries. Estimated institutional payment for an academic year fellowship is $18,000 for a graduate student and $10,000 for an undergraduate student. Their study in Japan must last for at least 3 months and must earn credit that will transfer to their home campus in the US. Bridging Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of $2,500 (for students on semester-long programs) or $4,000 (for students on academic year programs).
