Mellon Humanities in a Digital World Ph.D. Fellowships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The USC Humanities in a Digital World Program is pleased to announce competitions for one-year Ph.D.\u00a0fellowships\u00a0in digital humanities for 2024-2025. The competition is open to USC graduate students in\u00a0Dornsife\u00a0College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences or the\u00a0School of Cinematic Arts whose research is in the humanities or the humanistic sciences and who will be ABD by August 1, 2024. Fellows must be in year three, four, five, or six of their graduate program during the 2024-2025 academic year. The HiDW Program will not fund graduate students beyond year six.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/digitalhumanities\/home\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USC Humanities in a Digital World Program<\/a>\u00a0aims to explore how humanities scholarship can evolve through engagement with digital technologies. Fellows will receive a stipend of $40,000 for the 2024-2025 academic year. They will also participate in required in-person tutorials at USC during the Summer 2024 term. The content, outcomes, schedule, and instructors for the tutorials will be tailored to support the unique projects proposed by the individual fellows in their fellowship applications. The tutorials will consist of approximately 30-60 hours of in-person training.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants should email a single pdf file with a c.v. and a\u00a0research\u00a0statement to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:digitalhumanities@usc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">digitalhumanities@usc.edu<\/a>.\u00a0Experience with digital technologies is not a requirement for the fellowship.\u00a0The\u00a0research\u00a0statement\u00a0should include a description of the applicant\u2019s dissertation project in the humanities or humanistic social sciences, their experience using digital technologies, and a proposal for a dissertation-related project that uses digital tools available at USC. Those who have experience with digital humanities should describe it in their applications. Strong project proposals might include creating a SCALAR book with multimedia components, producing a video essay, developing data visualizations, constructing dynamic maps with geographic information systems, or building 3D models with immersive technologies. Applicants should also include their date of entry into the graduate program at USC, the date of their qualifying exams, and the anticipated date of degree completion; the\u00a0research\u00a0statement\u00a0should not exceed three single-spaced pages.
