Firestone attended an international conference there which focused on the ways in which modern-day Muslims want to practice Islam.\n<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There is a lot bubbling up in the Muslim world these days, and contrary to the expectations of many of us, the news is not all bad. Don&rsquo;t be put off by the hijabs and the turbans. Women make up a dynamic part of the young Muslim leadership in Singapore, and they challenged the scholars in the Q-and-A in a way that I would like to see in my own students.
