Journalist fellows\u2019 work on CRCC\u2019s global project on engaged spirituality<\/a> has earned accolades for a second year. Stories produced by podcast partner The Spiritual Edge<\/a> took home awards for Religion News Association\u2019s 2022 best radio stories and the American Academy of Religion\u2019s<\/a> 2022 best in-depth multimedia journalism.<\/p>\n

RNA Radio Awards:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • 1st place: Shaina Shealy, \u201cA Mental Health Counselor in the DRC Creates New Rituals for Grief\u201d<\/a><\/li>\n
  • 2nd place: Heidi Shin, \u201cHe Started a Movement to #StopAAPIHate\u201d<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    AAR Multimedia Award, 2nd place:<\/strong> Monique Parsons, \u201cMaking Space for Women in Mosques\u201d<\/a> and \u201cInside an Illinois Maximum Security Prison with Theology Professor and Her Students.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

    Additionally, other journalism fellows were honored for their work outside of the project. CRCC congratulates Kimberly Winston, who was recognized by RNA for her work in online-only news outlets, and Ken Chitwood, whose book The Muslims of Latin America and the Caribbean<\/em> won RNA’s nonfiction religion book category. Chitwood also won third place in AAR<\/a> best in-depth newswriting category.<\/p>\n

    2021 Awards<\/h2>\n

    The Spiritual Edge<\/em><\/a> swept the Religion News Association\u2019s 2021 radio award, with audio documentaries from its Sacred Steps series placing first, second and third.<\/p>\n

    Sacred Steps, a series of profiles of people seeking to make change in the world, is a collaboration between KALW\u2019s The Spiritual Edge and the USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture. The honored stories were aired on KALW\u2019s Crosscurrents and are part of Season 1 of The Spiritual Edge podcast, which is now in Season 2.<\/p>\n
