Are productive online conversations possible? According to Amanda Quraishi<\/a>, founder and director of the Institute for Digital Civic Culture<\/a> (IDCC), they’re not only possible, but crucial. PC Magazine<\/a> interviewed Quraishi on designing a more equitable civil society with digital tools.<\/p>\n

Here is an excerpt:\n<\/p>\n

Would you say, in fact, that the future of civil society depends on equity in access to decision-making tools?<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>Q: <\/strong>I think it’s true that information is power. So, yes, the power should lie with the people. Not only should everyone have control over their own personal data, but any public data that is collected should be accessible to everyone, all the time. This can be facilitated both by governments, and by professional data journalists. I think it’s the right of people in a free society to have access to their own information—individually and collectively—and my one concern is that many people don’t seem to care about it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
