Ken Chitwood also moderated a conversation, <a href=\"\/how-then\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;How Then Shall We Live? When AI Takes Over&#8221;<\/a> and you can read more about <a href=\"https:\/\/religionlink.com\/source-guides\/everyday-ai-reporting-on-artificial-intelligences-role-in-religious-ritual\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">religion and AI here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The Zoom presentation preceded a conversation among participants in which they could share hesitations about artificial intelligence, as well as their own experience using AI tools. Below are some notes from that conversation.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {\"level\":4} --><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Ethical considerations for using AI\u00a0<\/em><\/h4>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>AI will only enhance your own personal practices and ethics \u2013 you can lie, or skip the prayer\/contemplation part of creating a sermon with or without AI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Understand AI\u2019s limitations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Understand how information you input is used\/stored.<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>You may want to avoid adding specific personal information with prompts or private conversations to AI transcription services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Create an ethics document\/committee within your congregation or denomination for how to use. Recognize, however, that ethics will need to evolve with technology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>AI replicates biases existing in society. Your role is to help ennoble your culture. Especially if you\u2019re coming from a marginalized community, don\u2019t let AI erase or commodify your culture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Think of ethics in terms of your responsibility to create deep meaning, community, creativity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>You may have deep theological problems with AI answers \u2013 just as with other humans. Think about using AI as a dialogue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --> <!-- wp:heading {\"level\":4} --><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>AI Prompts<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>\u201cSandbox\u201d &#8211; play around with it by asking different questions, ask follow up questions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Change words to see how it affects answers (i.e., Biblical, Christian, Lutheran)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Ask it to help you find scholarly articles, books or podcasts on a subject for research<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Ask AI for specific types of results (i.e., 4 themes, an outline)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Include demographic and contextual information for better results<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>Could be helpful for relating to people not like you (examples: what are some ways that parents think about peace; how teenage gamers relate to Biblical stories)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Due to biases in AI\u2019s data, you may need to include your own demographic information in prompts to get more culturally relevant responses (i.e. \u201cI am a Black female\u201d)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Break your requests down into steps. Next step is to add a focal message to it.
