Information for USC Dornsife Ph.D. Candidates

Because you are registered for the USC Dornsife Ph.D. Hooding ceremony, the USC Dornsife Events Office would like to make sure you are aware of the following:

News and Deadlines

Summary of Hooding Ceremony Day – Thursday, May 12, 2016
Timeline:

  • 9:00 a.m. – Registered Ph.D. candidates line up for hooding ceremony
  • 10:00 a.m. – Ceremony begins
  • 12:00 p.m. – Reception for graduates and guests with light refreshments

Photography: Four photographs will be taken of each Ph.D. candidate during the hooding ceremony. Proofs will be emailed within 24 hours. For more information please visit http://www.gradimages.com/.

Dissertation Advisor: We have already confirmed the attendance of the Dissertation Advisor you indicated on your hooding ceremony registration.  If they are not attending, Interim Dean Dani Byrd will present your hood.

Summary of Commencement Day – Friday, May 13, 2016

Timeline:

  • 7:00 a.m. – Ph.D. candidate reception in Associates Park south
  • 8:00 a.m. – Ph.D. candidates assemble inside Bovard Auditorium for the main ceremony in Alumni Park
  • 8:30 a.m. – Main ceremony begins
  • 10:20 a.m. – Main ceremony ends; students go directly to satellite ceremony or reception location (to locate your satellite ceremony or department reception, please visit http://dornsife.usc.edu/commence-general-info/)
  • Groups 3 and 4 department receptions begin upon conclusion of main ceremony
  • 11:00 a.m. – Groups 1 and 2 Dornsife satellite ceremonies begin
  • Groups 1 and 2 department receptions begin upon conclusion of satellite ceremonies
  • 2:30 p.m. – Groups 3 and 4 Dornsife satellite ceremonies begin

Videography: The USC Dornsife hooding and satellite ceremonies are not filmed, however the main Commencement ceremony in Alumni Park is recorded. To order a DVD of the main ceremony please visit https://www.uscbookstore.com/c-22-graduation.aspx

Regalia

Regalia is available May 2 through 11:00 a.m. on May 13 at the University Bookstore. Ordering, measurement and distribution of regalia will take place on the 3rd floor of the Bookstore.

Remember to bring your hood to the ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 12th!

Information for USC Dornsife Graduating Seniors

USC’s Commencement is less than two weeks away and the USC Dornsife Events Office would like to make sure you are aware of the following:

Satellite Ceremony Rehearsals
Mark your calendars with your group’s rehearsal date!

  • Group 1 – Tuesday, May 10 @ 2:00 p.m. on Brittingham Field
  • Group 2 – Wednesday, May 11 @ 1:30 p.m. on Cromwell Field
  • Group 3 – Wednesday, May 11 @ 3:00 p.m. on Cromwell Field
  • Group 4 – Tuesday, May 10 @ 3:30 p.m. on Brittingham Field

The above rehearsals are for YOU! We strongly encourage you to attend to understand your role in the ceremony; however, rehearsals are not mandatory.

Summary of Commencement Day
Timeline:

  • 8:00 a.m. – Students line up for the main ceremony in Alumni Park (Click here to find your column and assembly point)
  • 8:30 a.m. – Main ceremony begins
  • 10:20 a.m. – Main ceremony ends; students go directly to satellite ceremony or reception locations

All USC Dornsife departments hold a reception for graduates and their families. Please visit dornsife.usc.edu/department-receptions/ for reception locations and times.

Satellite Ceremony Locations
USC Dornsife is organized into four different groups with four separate satellite ceremonies. All USC Dornsife satellite ceremonies take place on Friday, May 13. To locate your satellite ceremony please visit http://dornsife.usc.edu/commence-general-info/

Seating: Guest seating for Groups 1 and 2 will begin at 10:00 a.m. Guest seating for Groups 3 and 4 will begin at 1:30 p.m.

USC Dornsife Seniors Commencement is approaching fast!
ARE YOU READY?!

The USC Dornsife Events Office would like to make sure that you are aware of the following:

Disability Services
Dornsife satellite ceremonies provide a reserved seating area for guests requiring a captionist, sign language interpreter or who are in a wheelchair. Due to space limitations, only one family member may join the disabled guest in the reserved seating area.  Disability reservations are limited to guests in use of a wheelchair or walker and the hearing or visually impaired.  By request, USC Dornsife will make arrangements for sign language interpreters and captionists.

  • Instructions for submitting a disability request can be found at dornsife.usc.edu/disability-services/
  • Requests for disability accommodations must be received by Friday, April 15, 2016

Commencement Book
Students will be able to confirm their name and degree information for the Commencement Book on April 11 and 12 online at commencement.usc.edu.

Honor Cords
Dornsife undergraduate students who are eligible to receive honors cords will be notified via email after April 18. For more information regarding eligibility for honor cords please visit https://dornsife.usc.edu/commencement-faqs/

Cap and Gown
Regalia is available April 28
through 11:00 a.m. on May 13 at the University Bookstore. Ordering, measurement and distribution of regalia will take place on the 3rd floor of the Bookstore.

  • Reminder! Regalia should be returned after your Satellite Ceremony on May 13th to the drop-off area outside of the bookstore.

COMMENCEMENT 2016
Information for USC Dornsife Ph.D. Candidates

The Ph.D. hooding ceremony on May 12th is fast approaching!

The Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony is the only USC Dornsife event exclusively for Ph.D. recipients. Ph.D. candidates who defended in December 2015 or who will defend in May or August 2016 are eligible to participate. In order to participate in the ceremony, candidates must register online.

Registration
Register at dornsife.usc.edu/phd-reservation-form in order to participate. Registration opens Monday, January 11, 2016 at noon (12:00 p.m.) and will close Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. No late requests will be accommodated.
