Deadlines for application in each year are in March of the Spring semester.<\/p>\n<p>Students are highly encouraged to speak with a faculty member in Classics about ideas for the award. We are happy to assist in identifying productive opportunities for use of the fellowships and to help in developing high quality proposals at any stage in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Further details, including specific information on how to apply, may be obtained by clicking the links below. With support from the fellowship, Milly travelled to Greece this summer to carry out work for a project examining the reception of Hesiodic myth in ancient visual and material culture. After preliminary work at the Getty Villa in Malibu, Milly travelled to Athens to survey materials at the National Archaeological Museum and at the Gennadius and Blegen Libraries at the American School of Classical Studies. With support from the fellowship, Joey travelled to Greece to carry out research for a project examining the urban topography of sites at Athens and Rhodes. The award allowed Jesse to take part in an archaeological field school on the isle of Despotiko administered by a program with College Year in Athens. The excavation concentrates on an early Iron Age sanctuary of Apollo (9th-8th cen. The fellowship allowed Sungjoon to travel to Israel, where he carried out archaeological fieldwork with the Caesarea Exploration Project over the summer. The excavation focuses on the outer wall of the ancient city (4th-5th cen. In the summer of 2017, Zoie spent time on Crete collecting testimonials and taking photographs for a project of oral history documenting the long-term social and economic change affecting the region. Max was a recipient of the 2017 Kallins Hellenic Studies Summer Fellowship, in its inaugural year. The fellowship permitted Max to take part in an archaeological excavation at the Temple of Poseidon in Onchestos, near ancient Thebes, where he unearthed the remains of a bronze votive sword, among other things.
