In conjunction with USC Visions &amp; Voices, Smith appeared at Bovard Auditorium. After reading her short story \u201cSentimental Education,\u201d Smith engaged in a wide-ranging conversation with USC Writer in Residence Geoff Dyer about reading, writing, and the amorphous art of knowing\u2014or attempting to know\u2014oneself. Video of the interview can be found on <a href=\"https:\/\/airlightmagazine.org\/airlight\/issue-5\/zadie-smith-interviewed-by-geoff-dyer\/\">the website of <em>Air\/Light<\/em> magazine<\/a>. Prior to <em>An Evening with Zadie Smith<\/em>, Smith participated in a &#8220;Craft of Writing&#8221; symposium hosted by the USC Department of English, led by Professors Dana Johnson and Aimee Bender.<\/p>\n<p>Zadie Smith is the award-winning author of the novels <em>White Teeth<\/em>, <em>The Autograph Man<\/em>, <em>On Beauty<\/em>, <em>NW<\/em>, and <em>Swing Time<\/em>, as well as collections of essays such as <em>Changing My Mind<\/em> and <em>Feel Free<\/em>. She was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2002 and listed as one of Granta\u2019s 20 Best Young British Novelists in 2003 and 2013, and she is a tenured professor of fiction at New York University and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.<\/p>\n<p>Geoff Dyer is the award-winning author of many books, including<em> Out of Sheer Rage<\/em>, <em>Yoga for People Who Can\u2019t Be Bothered to Do It<\/em>, <em>Zona<\/em>, <em>See \/ Saw<\/em>, and the essay collection <em>Otherwise Known as the Human Condition<\/em> (winner of a National Book Critics Circle Award for criticism). A fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Dyer lives in Los Angeles, where he is Writer in Residence at the University of Southern California.
