Developmental inflection point for the effect of maternal childhood adversity on children’s mental health from childhood to adolescence: Time-varying effect of gender differences

Childhood adversities have a well-established dose–response relationship with later mental health. However, less attention has been given to intergenerational influences. Further, it is unknown how intergenerational influences intersect with children’s developmental stages and gender. The current study examined whether a developmental inflection point exists when the intergenerational influences of childhood adversities gain salience and explored differences by children’s gender. What happens when romantic couples discuss personal loss? Relational, emotional, and physiological impacts.

Does talking about loss with a romantic partner have salutary personal and relationship effects? Prior evidence reveals the benefits of emotional disclosure in couple relationships, yet disclosure about loss has been overlooked in research on couple communication. Using a novel communication paradigm with young–adult heterosexual romantic partners (N = 114 couples), we investigated emotions, physiological arousal (skin conductance responses [SCR]), and relationship closeness when narrating a personal loss and listening to the partner’s loss, and compared these loss discussions to discussions about desired relationship changes. Aggression Perpetration and Victimization Measures

The Aggression Perpetration and Victimization Measures (Margolin et al., 2013) were developed to assess aggression perpetration and aggression victimization over the course of the previous day. Instructed to consider friends and dating partners, participants respond to 11 items about aggression perpetration (e.g., "said something mean or hurtful in a face-to-face conversation or on the phone"; "pushed, shoved, shook, or grabbed hard") and the same 11 items for aggression victimization. Several of the items were adapted from an adult measure of intimate partner aggression, the Domestic Conflict Inventory (Margolin, John, & Foo, 1998) but all items were written to be applicable to college friendships and dating relationships; the items include psychological aggression, electronic aggression, physical aggression, and coerced intimacy. All items are rated using a 3-point Likert-type scale. Read More

Clinical Intervention to Reduce Dietary Sugar Does Not Affect Liver Fat in Latino Youth, Regardless of PNPLA3 Genotype: A Randomized Controlled Trial

We aimed to test effects of a clinical intervention to reduce dietary sugar compared with standard dietary advice on change in liver fat, and secondary-endpoint changes in liver fibrosis, liver enzymes, and anthropometrics; and whether effects differ by PNPLA3 genotype (assessed retrospectively) in Latino youth with obesity (BMI ≥ 95th percentile). Critical Challenges and Creative Solutions for Quantifying Nicotine Vaping: Qualitative Reports From Young Adults

Existing vaping behavior survey measures may not accurately capture the quantity of vaping as they differ from how (or if) participants track their own vaping consumption patterns. While continued research is needed to optimally refine survey measures on vaping consumption, future measures may better align with vapers' self-monitoring by including questions on device-type and replenishment frequency. Projecting the long-term societal value of a disease-modifyingtreatment for Alzheimer’s disease in the United States

We estimate societal value of a disease-modifying Alzheimer's disease (AD) treatment that reduces progression by 30% in early stages. sing the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research value flower as framework, we estimate gross societal value, that is, not including treatment cost, from avoided medical and social care costs, productivity and quality-adjusted life-years (QALY) gains for patients and caregivers, adjusting for severity of disease, value of financial insurance, and value of insurance for currently unafflicted adults with a Markov model.
